On Air This Week
This week you can look forward to our resident behaviourist Karin telling us how to get a cat settled into a new environment. Animaltalk editor Johan will look at what to do with cats that don’t want to cuddle as well as the new dog training series in the magazine. In the Welfare focus we have a very interesting chat to Dr Zaskia, the resident veterinarian at CLAW, an amazing organization helping local communities care for their animals. And then Mike Royston from the South African Guinea Pig Society will tell us all we need to know about these beautiful little creatures. Some make sure you tune in.
On The Couch
Karin has been involved in the field of Animal Behaviour since 1997 and after moving to Johannesburg, established the ThinkingPets Behaviour Practice with her partners. She has helped thousands of cat and dog clients who were experiencing problems with their pet's behaviour. Karin's services included offering puppy, puppy II and clicker training classes but she now spends most of her time presenting courses for the Centre of Applied Pet Ethology (COAPE UK) in South Africa, as well as for ThinkingPets and Eukanuba nationwide. She lectures extensively on the development of kittens and puppies country wide, and writes the regular series "Consultation Hour" for Cats Life Magazine and "On the Couch" for Animaltalk Magazine. Since April 2006 she has also been co-writing articles with Dr Peter Neville in the UK. She holds an OCN UK accredited Diploma through the Centre of Applied Pet Ethology (COAPE) in the UK, as well as a Certificate in Companion Animal Behaviour and is a registered International CAPBT Practitioner (COAPE association of Pet Behaviourists and Trainers). She is also the current chairperson for the CAPBT SA committee.

ThinkingPets promotes education, and to this end, we provide educational courses that meet every need. For owners wanting to learn more about their pets, we have a variety of general interest courses. Anyone wanting to learn more about offering exceptional training courses for all ages of dogs can sign up for our Instructors and COAPE Beginners/Intermediate courses, and if you want to make the field of Animal Behaviour your fulltime career, the COAPE Diploma is seen as one of the best qualifications worldwide for a Consulting Behaviour Practitioner. The COAPE courses are independently accredited by one of the largest Educational bodies in the UK - a testimony to their superb standard.
